One for the books

I wanted to temporarily move away from soccer to learn how differently I would have to approach shooting indoors sports. Troy Chambers, a friend of mine running the outstanding Facebook group LOB (Love of Basketball) introduced me to Eastside Catholic’s assistant coach Anthony White who had a Junior player in mind who could use a recruiting video. Surrounded by such renown stand-outs as J.T. Tuimoloau and Shane Nowell, it is easy for a lot of great athletes to go under the radar.

Guard Syon Blackmon impressed right away. A great student with great work ethics, he was a constant threat at mid-range with a pure stroke and an outstanding defender who was frequently assigned the “star” in the opposing team. His toughness on the court was matched by his kindness after the buzzer sounded the end of a game. It was a real pleasure to wait and congratulate him on his performance.

The son of parents completely devoted to their son and his siblings’ education, Syon had everything a coach could look for: great GPA, raw talent, work ethics, team dedication, and ability to be coached. So it was an exciting day when his mom told me that he had received a full ride offer at Seattle Pacific University. I am so proud I had the opportunity to put the spotlight on such a fine young man!

You can watch him here.
